Bio Picture

Randy Wells has always had a passion for art as far back he remembers. Drawing and painting have come natural to him. While still in high school he decided to pursue a career in science and continue with his art on the side. Although his career has grown as an aerospace engineer, he has managed to improve in honing his artistic craft over the years through practice, pouring over hundreds of works by other artists, and studying art books and magazines. Randy painted in watercolors, landscapes mostly, through the seventies and early eighties, culminating in one juried show in the Tampa Bay Art Show in 1987. Shortly later, he began experimenting with acrylics and soon discovered this to be the most fitting medium for his impressionistic style. Acrylics allows for boldness in paint application and freedom to adjust throughout the process. Artists that have influenced Randy the most were impressionistic and post-impressionistic. Although initially drawn to Monet and Van Gogh, Randy has discovered works by American Impressionists such as Redfield, Metcalf, Cooper, and Stengel. His style is best described as a blend of Monet and these American Impressionists. However, the medium is acrylics instead of oils, hence his theme: American Impressionism with Acrylics. He strives to maximize value contrast, color variations, and rendering objects as relationships to their surroundings rather than isolated detailed entities. Joining Huntsville Art League in February, 2007, Randy has been involved in various shows. He enjoys learning from other artists and getting their opinions of his art. He is strongly supported by his loving family with their compositional insights as well as business and website management.
